Daevas, mystical outsiders with inherent ties to the powers of akasha, are well known for their ability to meld themselves with a mortal to grant them power. Some have chosen to abuse such a bond, binding the daeva to their body and soul to further harness their potent magical energies… even if such things prove costly.

Veilweaving[]

A daeva binder has learned to harness the powers of the daeva, allowing them to shape akasha into powerful veils. The daeva binder chooses a single mental ability score (Intelligence, Wisdom or Charisma) and uses it as their veilweaving modifier, and has a veilweaving level equal to their class level. The saving throw DCs of the daeva binder’s veils are equal to 10 + the essence invested in the veil + the daeva binder’s veilweaving modifier.

This replaces the thaumaturge’s casting, spell pool, and magic talents class features

Esoteric Veils[]

Rather than drawing their veils from a predefined list, each daeva binder develops their own unique selection of veils based on their interests and the powers of the daeva they have bound. At 1st level, the daeva binder chooses a number of veils equal to their veilweaving modifier + 2 (minimum 2) and treats those selected veils as their veil list. At each level thereafter they choose an additional 2 veils and add them to their veil list. This ability does not allow the daeva binder to shape veils shaped to esoteric chakra, such as Blood or Ring veils.

Veils Shaped[]

At 1st level, the daeva binder can shape one veil. They gain the ability to shape an additional veil at 2nd level, and every 3 levels thereafter.

Essence Pool[]

At 1st level, the daeva binder gains access to a pool of essence. They gain 1 point of essence at 1st level, and gain another point of essence at every level thereafter.

Forbidden Binding[]

Daeva binders use bargains, magical compulsions, secrets, and dangerous magical practices to harness power from the powerful and mysterious outsiders known as daeva that they have bound to their soul and essence. At any time, the daeva binder may choose to treat one of their veils as if it were invested with an additional 1 point of essence for 1 minute. This increase can cause a veil to be treated as if it were invested with more essence than the daeva binder’s maximum essence capacity, and stacks with similar abilities such as an akashic catalyst. The amount of effective essence investment increases by +1 at 3rd level, 5th level, and by an additional +1 for every 4 levels thereafter.

When the daeva binder uses forbidden lore to enhance their veils, there is a 15% chance the thaumaturge will suffer backlash; the veil is not invested with additional essence and is instead disjointed for 1d4 turns. In addition, the daeva binder suffers a -1 penalty to attack rolls, saving throws, and skill checks, which lasts until they rest or meditate to shape their veils for the day. This penalty is cumulative; every time the daeva binder suffers backlash in a day, these penalties increase by 1.

Abilities, invocations, and feats that determine their effects based on the daeva binder’s forbidden lore bonus, treat the amount of effective essence granted as the numerical bonus of their forbidden lore bonus.

This modifies the thaumaturge’s forbidden lore class feature.

Invocations[]

A daeva binder uses their veilweaving modifier in place of their casting ability modifier when determining the effects of their invocations and the number of daily uses of the ability they have. Additionally, the following invocations replace some of the invocations available to the thaumaturge:

Akashic Blessing: At 1st level, when the daeva binder affects one or more allies (treating themself as an ally) with a veil benefiting from their forbidden lore, they may spend an invocation to cause the affected allies to gain 1 temporary hit point per thaumaturge level for 1 round per thaumaturge level. If one of their veils benefits themselves or their allies as a constant effect (such as an aura), the daeva binder may use this ability at any time on their turn as a free action.

Akashic Assault: At 1st level, when the daeva binder affects one or more foes with a veil benefitting from their forbidden lore, or damages a foe with a weapon or natural attack granted by a veil benefitting from their forbidden lore, they may spend an invocation to cause the affected targets to become sickened for 1 round. A successful Fortitude save negates this effect.

Empowered Veil: At 3rd level, when the daeva binder spends an action to make an attack roll using a veil (whether it be a special attack, or an attack made using a manufactured or natural weapon created using a veil), they may use an invocation to grant themselves a bonus to attack rolls equal to his forbidden lore bonus for a number of rounds equal to their veilweaving modifier.

Veiled Defense: At 3rd level, when the daeva binder empowers one of their veils using their forbidden lore, they may spend an invocation to grant themself a dodge bonus to AC equal to their forbidden lore bonus.

Flexible Veil: At 15th level, the daeva binder may spend an invocation to immediately shape a veil they know of their choice for 1 minute. This veil does not count against their number of shaped veils and does not count against the slot it is shaped into, allowing it to be shaped alongside other veils in the same slot. If they can bind that veil to the slot they shape it into, they treat the veil as bound for this duration. The daeva binder may only have one use of flexible veil active at one time; using this invocation again replaces the veil shaped with the newly chosen veil.

This replaces the thaumaturge’s lingering blessing, lingering pain, empowered attack, empowered defense, and flexible caster invocations.

Chakra Binds[]

At 2nd level and every 2 levels thereafter, the daeva binder unlocks chakra binds in the following order: Hands, Feet, Head, Wrist, Shoulders, Headband, Neck, Belt, Chest, and Body.

Bonus Feats[]

In addition to the normal options available to the daeva binder when selecting their bonus feats, the daeva binder may select Basic Magical Training, Advanced Magical Training, or any Akashic feat using their bonus feats.

This modifies the thaumaturges bonus feats, but is not considered to be modifying them for the purposes of archetype compatibility.
