The following section lists and describes the runic scripts of Paths of Magic. The archivist uses this entire list for his script list: other scribes have their own script lists that contain a subset of these scripts (see Alternate Script Lists). The levels shown in this section correspond to their appearance on the archivist list, and may change for other scribes.

0-Level Runic Scripts (Fundamentals)[]

Alteration[]

Fortify: Subjects gain a small bonus on one or more saving throws.
Minor Alteration: Create minor changes to an object or creature.
Vigor: +1 on one attack roll, saving throw, or skill check.

Creation[]

Make: Create a mundane tool.
Repair: Make minor repairs on an object.
Staunch: Target gains 1 temporary hit point, stabilizes if dying.

Destruction[]

Crack: Sunder an object.
Pain: Strike a target for 1d4 slashing damage.
Weakness: Ray causes target to be fatigued.

Invocation[]

Chill: Freezing air deals 1d2 cold damage, reduces movement speed.
Invoke Elements: Create minor elemental effects.
Sunspark: Object shines with light.

Manipulation[]

Age: Advance time to tire a creature, dealing 1d4 nonlethal damage.
Lift: Lift up to 5 pounds from a distance.
Move: Opens or closes light objects.

Revelation[]

Address: Send a brief telepathic message to another creature.
Decipher: Deciphers arcane writing from scrolls and spellbooks.
Seek Magic: Detects all magical effects and items within 60 ft.

1st-Level Runic Scripts[]

Alteration[]

Augment: Allies gain +1 bonus to a single type of check.
Hinder: Ray causes target to take a 1d6+1 penalty to Strength or Dexterity.
Strongarm: Unarmed attacks deal 1d6 lethal damage (1d4 if Small).

Creation[]

Aegis: Subject gains +2 armor bonus, blocks striking.
Anima, Minor: As anima, but Small and with no special abilities.
Recover: Cure 1d6 damage +1/level (max +5).

Destruction[]

Afflict: One touch/level deals 1d6 damage, possibly sickens.
Breaking: Destructive energies break objects.
Pulse: Sonic pulse deals 1d8/2 levels (max 5d8) and may temporarily deafen target.

Invocation[]

Beseech the Wilds: Speak with animals, asking them questions about the environment.
Tangled Roots: Vines and roots entangle foes, create difficult terrain.
Winter’s Bite: Cone of ice deals 1d4/level cold damage (max 5d4).

Manipulation[]

Phase: Step between planes, allowing an attack to pass through you.
Slow Fall: Objects and creatures fall slowly.
Speed: Target’s movement speed increases by 10 ft.

Revelation[]

Comprehension: You understand all spoken and written languages.
Disorient: Living creature of 4 HD or less loses its next action.
Hypnotize: Fascinates 2d4 HD + level (max +10) of creatures.

2nd-Level Runic Scripts[]

Alteration[]

Enhance Movement: Target gains a swim speed or climb speed.
Morph: Assume form of a Small or Medium humanoid.
Wrack: Creature takes 1d6/2 levels nonlethal damage, -2 penalty to checks from pain.

Creation[]

Armament: Create a temporary weapon or shield.
Bolster: Target gains 2d4 + 1/level temporary hit points, +1 bonus to saves.
Rebuild: Repairs an object.

Destruction[]

Disruption: Target has difficulty casting, takes nonlethal damage if it fails.
Drain: Negative energy deals 1d4 per 2/levels in a 5-ft burst.
Striking: Missiles of force strike unerringly for 1d6+1 damage.

Invocation[]

Call of the Hunt: Ghostly manifestations of wolves help you hunt and fight.
Moonshadow: Shadowy haze blocks vision, creates darkness.
Nature’s Embrace: Target better resists heat and cold, can ignore 10 points of energy per attack of a specified energy type.

Manipulation[]

Repel: Surge of gravity pushes away foes.
Slide: Teleport a short distance.
Ward of Conviction: +2 to AC and saves, plus additional protection against selected alignment.

Revelation[]

Course of Action: Determine a creature’s next course of action.
Soothe: Suppress negative emotions.
Unveil: Notice hidden doors, traps, and creatures in a 30-ft. cone.

3rd-Level Runic Scripts[]

Alteration[]

Alter Form, Lesser: As alter form, but with weaker benefits.
Bulwark: Armor or shield gains +1 enhancement per four levels.
Enhance Physique: Target gains +4 bonus to a single physical ability score.

Creation[]

Anima, Lesser: As anima, but with weaker abilities.
Panacea: Multiple creatures are cleansed of a specified ailment.
Shimmer: Glowing dust blinds and outlines creatures.

Destruction[]

Decaying Ray: Ranged touch attack deals 3d6 negative energy damage, +1 ray/four levels (max 4).
Negation: Cancels one magical script, spell, or effect.
Rumble: Sonic burst deals 1d6/2 levels sonic damage, deafens creatures.

Invocation[]

Chameleon: Makes everyone within 10 feet invisible.
Sun and Moon: 40-ft. radius of light or darkness.
Tremor: Ground shakes in 30 ft. cone, staggering and knocking prone, creating difficult terrain.

Manipulation[]

Arbitrate: Ray of energy deals damage to creature of a chosen alignment.
Float: Subject flies at speed of 30 feet.
Shift: You randomly shift between dimensions.

Revelation[]

Empath: Detect the emotions of nearby creatures.
Enhance Mind: Target gains +4 bonus to a single mental ability score.
Paradox: Conflicting thoughts stuns or dazes a target creature.

4th-Level Runic Scripts[]

Alteration[]

Cripple: Inflict crippling penalties to a target.
Resize: Increase or reduce the size of an object or creature.
Sharpness: Weapon gains magical enhancements or special properties.

Creation[]

Cleansing: Cures the target of 1d4 ability damage, removes a negative level.
Create: Create a single object out of simple materials.
War Razor: Longsword of force attacks, flanks with your allies.

Destruction[]

Life Drain: Ranged touch attack deals 1d6 damage per two levels, grants caster temporary hit points.
Miasma: Vapory mist inflicts penalties on creatures in area.
Pressure: Translucent bolt of force deals 1d6/level in a 60-ft. line.

Invocation[]

Dawn’s Fury: Solar fire deals 1d6 damage per level, 20-ft.-radius.
Natural Medicine: Target is cured of all diseases or poisons.
Primordial Ward: Elemental forces shape into a wall that protects you.

Manipulation[]

Alter Flow: Speed up or slow the flow of time around subjects, granting +1 or -1 to AC and Reflex.
Crush: Creature or object is forced downward by gravity.
Jaunt: Teleports you a short distance.

Revelation[]

Addle: Subjects behave oddly for 1 round/level.
Falsify Senses: Subjects perceive their surroundings incorrectly.
Sight Beyond Sight: Spies on subject from a distance.

5th-Level Runic Scripts[]

Alteration[]

Deformity: Painful deformity causes 2d4 Constitution and Dexterity damage.
Diamond Skin: Subject receives DR 5/–, +2 bonus to natural armor.
Unhindered: Subject moves normally despite impediments to movement.

Creation[]

Barrier: Barrier of force surrounds creatures to protect or trap them.
Bladeward: One sword/2 levels orbit allies, dealing slashing damage within 5 feet and granting AC.
Revitalize: Multiple creatures are cured of 1d6+1/level hit points (max +15).

Destruction[]

Disenchant: Frees subjects from enchantments, transmutations, and curses.
Pulverize: Object or creature takes 1d6/level damage, breaking object and penalizing creatures.
Wither: Field of negative energy deals 1d6 damage each round, sickens creatures.

Invocation[]

Call of the Wild: Ghostly manifestations of powerful animals fight alongside you.
Poison Thorns: Growth of vines and nettles slows movement, poisons those in the area.
Stormcall: Lightning storm deals 10d6 damage to creatures in area, wind and rain hamper vision.

Manipulation[]

Gravity Surge: Amplified gravity burdens creatures, causes flying creatures to fall.
Judgement: Blast of cosmic energy deals damage to creatures of specified alignment.
Stop: Creature is frozen in time.

Revelation[]

Control Emotions: Alter subject’s emotions, filling them with hope or despair.
Link: Allies communicate telepathically.
Twisting Futures: Gain limited foresight, letting you reroll a single d20 within a certain time frame.

6th-Level Runic Scripts[]

Alteration[]

Adaptation: Subject automatically adapts to hostile environments.
Alter Form: Change your physical being.
Blowout: Creatures strikes as if two sizes larger, staggers and bull rushes those hit.

Creation[]

Anima: Create a construct of rune magic to fight for you.
Revivify: Cures 5d8 damage + 1/level and restores life to recently slain creatures.
Shardwall: Wall of razors deals 1d8/2 levels, bleeds those that pass through.

Destruction[]

Chain Blast: 1 dart/2 levels deals 1d6+1 damage, chains to other targets.
Consume: Black flame deals 1d6/level, continues to burn and jump between targets.
Negation Burst: Cancels magical effects in a 20-ft. burst, lowers Spell Resistance.

Invocation[]

Corrosive Spores: Cloud of toxic plant spores deal 2d6 acid damage.
Elemental Mantle: Target gains multiple benefits based on a specified element.
Harmonize: Learn about terrain for 1 mile/level.

Manipulation[]

Accelerate: Target takes a standard or move action, loses its next turn.
Shape Gravity: Alter gravity to move objects, attack creatures, or hurl objects and creatures.
Traverse: You and allies slip between dimensions to travel fast.

Revelation[]

Psychic Blast: Mental assault deals 1d8/2 levels, renders foes shaken for 1 round/level.
See the Unwritten: See things as they really are.
Weaken Willpower: Targets take -8 penalty to a single mental ability score.

7th-Level Runic Scripts[]

Alteration[]

Dissolve: You become an incorporeal creature of dust for a short period of time.
Enhance Physique, Mass: As enhance physique, but targeting multiple creatures.
Expose Weakness: Multiple targets’ defenses are impaired.

Creation[]

Barricade: Conjure a wall of solid iron that is tough to destroy.
Cannonade: Cannon of force fires each round as you direct it.
Recuperate: Creature gains fast healing 5, resists poisons, disease, and nonlethal damage.

Destruction[]

Dust to Dust: Reduce a creature or object to dust.
Languish: Surge of entropy deals 1d4 Constitution damage, blinds and bleeds creatures.
Prevention: Barrier of unraveling energy grants creature SR 12 + level.

Invocation[]

Aurora: Entrancing lights daze, stagger, or sickens creatures.
Call of the Elders: Ghostly manifestations of treants guide you and aid you in battle.
Split the Sky: Creates storms in a local area.

Manipulation[]

Banish: Send 2 HD/level of extraplanar creature back to their home planes.
Dimensional Shift: Multiple creatures travel to another plane.
Spatial Ripple: Distorted space deals 1d8/2 levels, prevents teleportation effects.

Revelation[]

Enhance Mind, Mass: As enhance mind, but affecting multiple targets.
Persuasion: Compel creatures to follow a course of action.
Prediction: Gain insight into future events.

8th-Level Runic Scripts[]

Alteration[]

Alter Form, Greater: Like alter form, but with more powerful benefits.
Reforge: Change the physical and magical properties of weapons and armor.
Sap: Creature is permanently sickened and entangled.

Creation[]

Arsenal: Multiple weapons move at your command, intercept attacks.
Bastion: Barrier protects creatures, prevents entry from outsiders.
Rejuvenation: Heals for 10 hit points/level, cleanses target of ailments.

Destruction[]

Cacophony: Blast of sonic energy deals 1d6/level, deafens targets, breaks fragile objects.
Decrepify: Wave of negative energy causes creatures to be exhausted.
Negation Field: Destructive aura negates all magic within 10 ft.

Invocation[]

Eclipse: Burst of lunar shadows deals 1d8/2 levels and 1d6 Dexterity damage, creates darkness.
Grasping Earth: Ground beneath targets’ feet pulls and traps them.
Primal Vigor: Glowing aura surrounds a target, granting it bestial aspects.

Manipulation[]

Out of Time: Push creature out of the flow of time for a short while.
Portal: Gateway connects two locations.
Rejection: Target creature gains several defenses against a chosen alignment.

Revelation[]

Enigma: Creature becomes an enigma to outside divinations and mental effect.
Misgiving: Enemies are reluctant to harm you.
Mystic Sight: See and identify ongoing magical effects on creatures and objects.

9th-Level Runic Scripts[]

Alteration[]

Debilitate: Severely weaken a single creature.
Invincible: Gain several potent defensive bonuses for 1 round/2 levels.
Unstoppable: Targets become faster and stronger.

Creation[]

Anima, Greater: As anima, but with more powerful abilities.
Flesh and Blood: Raise a creature from the dead.
Sixfold Veil: Barrier prevents passage.

Destruction[]

Devastation: Crushing force deals damage in a constantly increasing area, knocks prone.
Obliteration: Ravage creatures for 10 damage/level each round.
Unravel: Strip away a creature’s magical protections and abilities.

Invocation[]

Elements Incarnate: Give shape to primal energies in the form of an elemental.
Light of the Sun: Pillar of radiance blinds creatures, destroys undead.
Wrath of the Ancients: Call forth a natural disaster.

Manipulation[]

Inversion: Gravity repels in a 20-ft. sphere.
Restore Balance: Harms creatures based on their alignment, banishes outsiders.
Temporal Distortion: Stop the flow of time nearby.

Revelation[]

Control: Take total control of a creature.
Overwhelm: Creatures have their senses assaulted.
Prescience: Subject gains a +1 bonus/2 levels to a single d20 check.
