xxMuch like traditional spellcasters, scribes can have a varying degree of focus upon the runic arts.

SCRIBE PROFICIENCY[]

Scribes have three levels of proficiency, based on how much they utilize rune magic. These levels are major, intermediate, and lesser scribes. Each scribe has an associated scribe type, as listed in their descriptions. The archivist, for example, is a major scribe, as he focuses exclusively on rune magic and its use.

A scribe’s type determines several elements of his capability, including:

  • How many scripts he knows and can prepare.
  • The maximum level of runic script he may learn, prepare, or cast.
  • How many casting he has per script per day.
  • The maximum runic charge they can hold at once (see Runic Charge).
  • How many fundamental runes he may learn.

All of these values are consistent for a given type of scribe, regardless of class. As an example, the rune knight magus, rune binder inquisitor, and the curiologist bard archetypes are all intermediate scribes, and therefor have identical values for how many scripts they can learn, how many castings they have, and so on.

SCRIPTS KNOWN AND CASTINGS PER SCRIPT[]

For a given scribe type, the number of scripts they can learn, how many castings they have, and so on are described on the tables on this page. Table: Scripts Known (Major) shows how many scripts and fundamentals are learned by a major scribe, and also shows the maximum level of script they can learn. Table: Castings Per Script (Major) similarly details how many castings a major scribe has based on his level and the level of script he has prepared.

Appropriate tables are also prepared for intermediate and lesser scribes, as shown below. Use these tables as needed for the scribe you are playing.
